Supporting our clients across Yorkshire

Meet Kimberley Morgan. She is one of our wonderful Senior Move Managers providing vital help and guidance to older adults making a later life move.

We asked Kimberley about what she loves about her job and what can be a challenge when supporting a client who is rightsizing.

What is your favourite part of working as a Senior Move Manager?

I really enjoy getting to know the people I work with. Spending time sorting through their belongings can spark very interesting conversations and provide some insight into what are often fascinating experiences and life stories.

What part of your work do you find the hardest?

It can often be hard saying goodbye to items of sentimental value. Moving from family homes can also mean leaving hobbies behind such as beautiful gardens or carpentry workshops.

What did you do before becoming a SMM?

I was in Prime Brokerage Sales at an investment bank for 10 years. I was based in London and New York, it was hard work but good fun. I now live in North Yorkshire with my family and life is a different kind of "busy".

What misconceptions do people have about our work?

Most people I talk to aren't aware that a professional organiser is a "thing" but when you explain to them that we help people in their later years move house, they immediately recognise how valuable that service is. I think that some people worry that our role includes making decisions about what is kept and what is disposed of, but all of those decisions are made by the client, we are there to provide technical, physical and emotional support.

If you get a free moment, what do you do to unwind?

I love to exercise and spend time with friends and family.

What's the most unique request you have dealt with for a client and how did you do so?
A client recently had to part with a Hoffman Baby Grand Piano. It was very loved by her late husband and she wanted it to go to a good home. Unfortunately, I didn't have any success selling it and so we donated it to a local secondary school which was delighted with it. The students named it Dustin (Hoffman) and sent photographs and videos of them playing it to her with notes of thanks.
