A huge thank you Doris for all you do!

What is your favourite part of working as a Senior Move Manager?

The many interesting people we get to meet! Helping clients through what is always a difficult time and dealing with the challenges of a move is always new and varied.  Being part of the decision-making process of furniture planning for the new home is always lovely, and I enjoy the challenge of being as inventive as possible with space and storage planning. Move day is obviously the most important part of the entire process and trying to unpack and organise as much as possible on the day is the icing on the cake! It’s always good to feel you’ve made a real contribution.

What part of your work do you find the hardest?

Time management can be difficult sometimes. The key thing is to determine where the most important area of need is. Clients don’t always like to reach out and ask for help when they need it, so trying to be as understanding as possible and cultivating a relationship of trust is important.

What did you do before becoming a Senior Move Manager?

I have always had an interest in property and design. I worked in residential property sales and was also involved in preparing and staging new homes for sale. I have also spent lots of time buying, selling, and renovating and hand-painting furniture.

What misconceptions do people have about our work?

People often think the role of a move manager is closely linked to that of ‘removals.’ Clients often underestimate the different things we are able and willing to do!

If you get a free moment, what do you do to unwind?

I really love food and enjoy cooking, but I do love a DIY project. I’m always happy when I have a paintbrush in my hand!

What's the most unique request you have dealt with for a client and how did you do so?

I don’t think I’ve ever been asked for anything too random. However, I was unable to help one of my clients recently to unpack on her move-in day. I saw her a couple of weeks later and as organised as she seemed to be, she seemed unhappy at how her lounge was arranged. Everything was in the wrong place, cabinets, tables, including a very large sofa that should have been placed in the second bedroom instead of the smaller one that found its way there. I asked her if she wanted me to move everything around, and she was reluctant to say yes but I could see it was what she wanted. Together we somehow managed to move everything, it was a really hot day and a real challenge, but we did it. She was so happy with the result, and I was happy because at one point I thought the sofa was going to be stuck in the doorway of her lounge forever! She then asked me to go into the town with her and bought another sideboard! It was a good day….
