Frequently Asked Questions

Supportive answers to the most common questions we’re asked about our services, process, and how we help older people move home.

About Our Services

What does The Senior Move Partnership do?

We provide specialist one-to-one support for older people who are moving home. Whether you're downsizing, moving into retirement housing, or relocating to be closer to family, we help with sorting, packing, paperwork, removals coordination, and emotional support every step of the way.

What is a Senior Move Consultant?

A Senior Move Consultant is a trained, compassionate professional who helps older clients plan and manage their home move. They offer personalised support before, during, and after the move, taking care of both practical tasks and the emotional impact of moving later in life.

Can you help with downsizing?

Yes. We offer sensitive and practical downsizing support to help you sort through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, gift, sell, or recycle — all at your pace.

Do you help people move into retirement properties or care homes?

Absolutely. We regularly support moves into retirement living, assisted living, sheltered housing, and care homes. We understand the emotional challenges and practical complexities involved and tailor our service accordingly.

Can you help people with health conditions like dementia or limited mobility?

Yes. Our consultants are trained to support individuals with dementia, memory loss, and mobility issues, always providing patient, respectful, and tailored care.

Removals and Packing

Do you arrange removals?

Yes. We work with a network of trusted, professional removals partners and can manage the whole process on your behalf — from booking the van to supervising the move.

Can you help with packing and unpacking?

Yes. We offer full or partial packing and unpacking services, including help with sorting, labelling, and settling into your new home.

Can you move furniture or dispose of unwanted items?

Yes. We can arrange furniture moving, donation, recycling, or disposal as part of your downsizing or relocation plan.

Planning and Support

How much does your service cost?

Every client is different. After an initial conversation, we’ll provide a clear, no-obligation quote based on the level of help you need. We offer flexible options to suit different budgets.

Can you help my relative if I live far away?

Yes. We often work with families who live in different parts of the UK or abroad. We’ll keep you informed throughout the process, giving you peace of mind that your loved one is supported.

Do you work with local authorities or housing providers?

Yes. We regularly partner with local councils, housing associations, retirement housing providers, and charities to support clients who are moving later in life.

Can you help with paperwork and utilities?

Yes. We can help with change-of-address paperwork, redirecting post, and advising on utilities or service disconnection and reconnection.

Locations and Availability

Where in the UK do you operate?

We cover all of the UK and have experienced Senior Move Consultants based in most regions. Wherever you’re moving from or to, we can help.

When should I get in touch?

As early as possible. Even if you’re not quite ready to move, we can help with planning, advice, and gentle support to prepare for when the time is right.

Trust and Safety

Are your staff vetted and insured?

Yes. All of our Senior Move Consultants are fully trained, insured, and DBS checked, so you can feel confident in who you’re working with.

Are you an independent company?

Yes. The Senior Move Partnership is a specialist service that has supported older people across the UK since 2009. We’re proud to offer a personal, human-centred approach that larger services often can’t match.
