Partner of the Month: Jennifer Smith

We are delighted to celebrate Jennifer Smith as The Senior Move Partnership’s Partner of the Month for June!

Jennifer has been working as a Senior Move Manager for just over two years, and in that time she has made a huge difference to the lives of many clients. Her warmth, patience, and ability to ease anxiety during such a big life change are just some of the reasons she has been recognised this month.

What Jennifer loves most about the role

For Jennifer, the best part of being a Senior Move Manager is meeting so many different clients, each with their own stories and journeys. “It’s great to be able to remove the anxiety that a lot of clients have at the start of the process and to help create a stress-free move,” she says.

A lesson learned

Patience is a skill Jennifer didn’t expect to develop quite so much. Working through each stage of a move at her clients’ pace has taught her just how important it is to be calm, reassuring, and adaptable.

A proud moment

Jennifer recalls working with a client who was very resistant to having support. With a full house, sheds, garage, and even a stair lift to deal with, the move was challenging. But over the weeks, Jennifer worked closely with her, step by step. At the end of the move, as she was leaving, the client gave her a big hug. “This made all of the tricky moments so worth it, it really meant the world to me!”

Skills that make a difference

Organisation is key in this role, and Jennifer has built up excellent knowledge of prioritising tasks and connecting with reliable clearance, auction, and charity contacts. She jokes that she’ll be “so organised” when it comes to moving house herself in the future!

Challenges in the moving process

One thing Jennifer wishes she could change for her clients is the amount of paperwork involved. Legal and developer documents often add unnecessary stress for older people, and simplifying this would make the whole experience much smoother.

Helping clients let go

Many of Jennifer’s clients struggle to part with kitchenware that holds family memories — casserole dishes, pots, glasses, and plates. She gently encourages them to see that this is a new chapter in life, and that hosting in the same way may no longer be necessary. It’s about honouring the memories while embracing what lies ahead.

Advice for others considering this career

Jennifer sums it up beautifully: “I have been doing this for over 2 years now and am always excited when a new referral comes through, as you never know what might be needed from each one. The job is challenging at times but always rewarding when you see your senior move into their new home and start to settle in.”

A huge congratulations again to Jennifer for being our Partner of the Month — thank you for the care, patience, and dedication you bring to every move.
